About this event

This session is being led by the Consultation Institute, and will help you to understand the Equality Act 2010, public sector equality duty, equality impact assessments and how you can fit into the process.   

Please note that the timings of this event are in two-parts delivered on one day, with the following timings for the sessions: 

The course is delivered on the same day, split into 2 x 2.5-hour sessions and you will need to attend both modules. Both sessions are on the same day.

Module 1: 10.00 to 12.30 

Module 2: 14.00 to 16.30 

Who is this event for?

Healthwatch staff and board members who represent their Healthwatch at statutory meetings and who could be involved in holding to account.  It would be helpful to have had some prior awareness of equality impact assessments.   

What will you learn?

From these two sessions you will learn:

  • The Equality Act 2010 and the protected characteristics 

  • What an equality impact assessment (EIA) is  

  • How public authorities should conduct EIAs   

  • What other ways a public authority can demonstrate compliance with the PSED 

  • Documentary evidence of compliance (with PSED) if an EIA is not conducted 

  • What information local Healthwatch can ask for to assess the strengths and weakness of an EIA  

  • How to hold commissioners and providers to account and challenge the quality of EIA or other methods used
