About this event

Listening skills are essential for Healthwatch staff and volunteers. They are also important for engagement staff and volunteers who speak to members of the public to gather experiences of using health and care services.

This session will show you new approaches on how to better listen to people, to support your information and signposting, and engagement activities.

Who is this event for?

This session is for local Healthwatch staff and volunteers who provide information and signposting activities to the public over the phone. The event will also be useful to engagement staff who speak to the public to gather their experiences of using health and care services.

What will you learn?

This workshop will provide you new and creative listening techniques to apply in your work, with a focus to:

  • Understand what good listening skills are and why they are important when providing information and signposting advice to the public.
  • Identify different types of listening, and how and when to apply them when engaging with the public to gather views.
  • The opportunity to explore your own listening style.
  • Practice listening well and discuss ideas with your peers.

Understand the difference listening skills can make to the outcomes of your activities.
