Social care unmet need

About this event

Several Healthwatch have told us they want to hear more about social care and have a broader conversation on the subject. We're also mindful that a number of Healthwatch are carrying out their own work on social care work, as you told us via the Annual Survey.

Healthwatch East Sussex recently gave a presentation to Healthwatch England's National Committee on social care as an unmet need. There isn't an agreed definition of unmet need in social care, but this term usually covers people who are eligible for support under the Care Act 2014 but can't access the care they need or where the care they receive doesn't support them as fully as it could or should. Healthwatch East Sussex is now calling for better communication between local health and care services, to help bring a better integrated and holistic experience for service users.

Healthwatch England wants to see social care reform to boost investment in services, cap the amount people can spend on social care costs over their lifetime and have a legal right to a care supporter. As part of this session, we want to know what support you need to help with this agenda locally.

Type of event

This is a discussion session, so please come prepared to share your experiences and listen to others.

Some questions to consider before you attend:

· How do you collect feedback and insight on social care?

· What feedback and insight have you got regarding social care locally?

· What supporting resources from Healthwatch England would help you to work on this topic?

What will you learn?
