About this event

Staff who provide information and signposting to the public as part of their role tell us how challenging it can often be. Supporting callers in difficult circumstances can test your skills and confidence, and the level of demand can sometimes mean you’ve little time to pause and reflect after a call.

Signing up for this series of action learning sets will allow you to work with a small group of staff from other local Healthwatch and a trained discussion facilitator to share experiences and help each other consider ways to manage different scenarios and challenges.

This isn’t about specific knowledge of health and care services. It’s about developing your personal skills for the role and finding new approaches to your work that suit your style.

The group will meet once a month for six months, and each person will have the opportunity to present a personal challenge or scenario for the group to focus on. This can be related to any part of your role for Healthwatch. You’ll then agree on actions that you’ll carry out before the next session.

As part of the first extended session, we will induct you and the other group members into the action learning set approach and explain how it will guide future discussions. This will include practicing how to ask open questions that help the person presenting their challenge to explore the issue and find solutions.

You must have permission from your manager to take part. You must be able to attend all six sessions, and by signing up, you are committing to do so. Only one place per Healthwatch is available. The dates are:

Session 1 – 9.30am – 12.30pm – 30/07/24 - (180mins)

Session 2 – 10am – 11.30am – 20/08/24 - (90mins)

Session 3 – 10am – 11.30am – 17/09/24 - (90mins)

Session 4 – 10am – 11.30am – 15/10/24 - (90mins)

Session 5 – 10am – 11.30am – 05/11/24 - (90mins)

Session 6 – 10am – 11.30am – 03/12/22 - (90mins)
